Sunrise Village

Sunrise Village is the only shelter of its kind in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 17,500 sq. ft. facility was specially designed and built to house homeless families and single adults in an efficient and dignified manner. Families with children live in individual family rooms with private baths. Individual alcoves are available for 30 single adults who share four dormitory-style rooms. There are separate program areas for families and adults without children. The shelter houses 66 people for up to three months, 264 individuals in any given year.

The building has private counseling areas, lounges, a children's library, commercial kitchen, storage space and play areas. A childcare facility operated by Kidango, Inc. is located on-site. Children from both Sunrise Village and the general public attend.

Residents receive three meals as day, phone and mail services and access to laundry facilities. Full spectrums of supportive services are offered to residents free of charge. This includes job counseling and placement, financial literacy training, transportation assistance, childcare, and children's programs. Mental health counseling, case management, parents classes and support groups are also available.

Residents living at Sunrise Village work with case managers to develop an action plan that identifies what they need (housing, employment, childcare, etc.) to successfully transition to living independently. All residents must save one third of their income for rent, security deposits and the other living expenses they will have upon leaving the shelter.
