Main Street Village - Update, September 2009
Main Street Village, Allied Housing's largest supportive housing project to date, is on schedule to begin construction in February 2010 and be completed in May 2011. This 64-unit supportive affordable housing development in Fremont will have several onsite service providers to assist residents with special needs, formerly homeless households, and very low income tenants. Main Street Village will include two three-story buildings with a central common area containing a basketball court, community gardens, walking paths and a tot lot. An additional 3400 square feet will be used for additional office space for Abode Services. This development will be a “green” project and will incorporate photovoltaic power, Energy Star appliances in every unit, and bay friendly landscaping.

Main Street Village is located in the Irvington District within walking distance of public transportation and about 500 feet from the future Irvington BART station. The project is being developed in partnership with Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition.
Over the last several months, Main Street Village has been transformed from a conceptual dream to a viable project with governmental approvals and full funding. This project was put on the fast track by a unique tax credit funding opportunity that is connected to the federal stimulus package. Special thanks to the City of Fremont, who has worked closely with our design team to make sure that we met our approval deadlines.
In June, we received our Planning Commission recommendation for approval. In July, the City Council voted unanimously to approve our project and to provide additional funding through the Redevelopment Agency for this project. In addition to the RDA funding, this project has secured funding from the County through the federal HOME program. Main Street Village has obtained a rental subsidy agreement from the Project Based Section 8 Vouchers program for 32 special needs units from the Housing Authority of Alameda County. We have also received funding commitments from the state Mental Health Service Act for both construction and rent subsidies for the 10 MHSA eligible households.
Abode Services will announce a ground breaking celebration at the site in the near future.
